Book "On Zionist Literature", by Ghassan Kanafani

In this study circle, we'll reflect and discuss "On Zionist Literature" by Ghassan Kanafani. In this book written in 1967, Kanafani analyses how the Zionist movement used linguistics and literary tools to establish and normalize its ideology, from the emergence of Zionism in the end of the 19th century until the 1967 war. 
This book is essential to understand how literature has and can be deployed as a major tool for the colonization of Palestine and by extension other places around the globe.

Together, we'll go through the book over 4 weeks time (4 meetings). It will be expected to read between 30-60 pages before our meetings, where we'll reflect and discuss the content read, and this way deepen our understanding of the main ideas developed in the book. The extent to which we delve into these subjects is heavily dependent on the interest of the participants. Optional learning material such as podcasts, films, texts will be recommended during the study circle, but optional.

Book "The Question of Palestine", by Edward Said

In this study circle, we'll reflect and discuss "The Question of Palestine" by Edward Said. Published in 1979, one year after « Orientalism », it is for Edward Said the second part of the trilogy including even « Covering Islam » published in 1981. « The Question of Palestine » exposes the western representation of Palestine and Palestinians, as well as the emergence of Palestinian consciousness, their effect on Palestinian struggle for liberation from colonialism.
A classic of Palestinian literature, this is an essential read for anyone interested in Palestine and colonial studies in general.
